The best way to treat your allergy symptoms is to schedule allergy testing to determine their exact cause. At Breathe ENT, we provide thorough testing and treatment options tailored to you.
Prick and Intradermal Testing
We perform both prick and intradermal testing on all patients to accurately identify environmental, seasonal, and other allergens such as pollen, mold, dust mites and pet dander. During prick testing, a device applies small amounts of allergens onto the surface of your skin. If you’re allergic to any of these substances, your immune system will react, causing swelling and redness. Depending on your reactions during prick testing, we may perform intradermal testing. During this part of testing, intradermal wheal, or bleb, is injected directly under the top layer of skin. After 15 minutes, any reactions are measured and classified as either positive or negative. Prick and intradermal testing are safe and reliable. This test may cause minor discomfort, swelling or itching.
What To Expect
This testing process typically takes 40 to 60 minutes in the office. Our allergy tech will work one of our doctors during this time.
Test results are not available immediately. You’ll need to schedule a follow-up appointment to review your results and discuss treatment recommendations.
Minimum Age and Pediatric Testing
The minimum age we test is 7 years old, depending on the child’s temperament and ability to tolerate the testing process. For children under 12 years old, we typically perform prick testing only, as it’s easier to tolerate and has a shorter testing process.
What We Don’t Test For
We do not test for food or medication allergies at this time. Our focus is on identifying environmental and seasonal allergens to help alleviate your allergy symptoms. If you’re ready to find out exactly what’s causing your allergy symptoms, schedule an allergy test with us today. Call us for more information or book your allergy consultation online.
